It was supposed to be an ordinary house clearance.

Three weeks after Ruth Bell dies, Hannah Mercer and Jessica Lane arrive to clear what she left behind. Furniture. Clothes. Decades of possessions reduced to piles of what stays and what goes.

But among Ruth’s belongings, they find something they can’t explain: what looks disturbingly like human skin.

Then it moves.

Soon, Jess begins to change. Strange sensations crawl beneath her skin and her body reacts in ways she cannot control. What begins as discomfort becomes impossible to ignore as something takes hold of her from within, leaving Hannah to watch her friend’s body become increasingly unfamiliar.

By the time they understand that whatever they found has attached itself to Jess, it is already too late to simply walk away.

Jess’s body doesn’t belong to her anymore.
