I’m A. T. List, a British author of psychological dark romance.

Ash & Thorn actually started life as something completely different. Years ago, I decided I wanted to write a book for someone close to me, and the original idea was fantasy. I eventually left it behind.

When I came back to it much later, I changed my mind completely. I scrapped the original direction and rebuilt the story into what became Ash & Thorn. The fantasy version and the finished book are essentially two different things.

I’d never read dark romance before writing it, which probably explains why I approached it from the characters and psychology first rather than trying to follow a set of genre rules. What interested me was obsession, control, manipulation, power, and the point where people start making choices they can’t take back.

That became the foundation of The Compulsion Trilogy.
